Romantic All-Inclusive Getaway to Jamaica: Montego Bay & Ocho Rios for Couples

Looking for the perfect blend of relaxation, culture, and tropical adventure? Our recent couple’s trip to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Jamaica gave us just that—and then some. We stayed at the stunning Dreams Montego Bay Resort & Spa, soaked in Caribbean sunsets, danced at silent discos, and explored some of the island’s most iconic natural and cultural gems.

Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or a much-needed romantic escape, Jamaica hits all the right notes. From the food and music to the warm hospitality and breathtaking landscapes, here’s everything we loved about our Jamaican getaway—and why it deserves a spot on your couple’s travel bucket list.

Where Is Jamaica?

Jamaica is a lush, tropical island nation located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea, just south of Cuba and west of Haiti. It’s known worldwide for its reggae roots, stunning beaches, warm hospitality, and dramatic inland scenery filled with waterfalls and rainforest-covered mountains. Popular destinations like Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril make Jamaica an ideal choice for couples seeking sunshine, culture, and adventure all in one place. Whether you’re lounging at an all-inclusive resort or exploring off-the-beaten-path gems, Jamaica offers the best of both worlds.

Where We Stayed: Dreams Montego Bay (Formerly Hilton Rose Hall)

Located on Jamaica’s north coast, Dreams Montego Bay Resort & Spa is a beachfront all-inclusive resort that has been beautifully reimagined from its former identity as Hilton Rose Hall. The rebrand brought fresh energy, elegant decor, and a thoughtful approach to food, entertainment, and service.

The resort strikes a perfect balance between laid-back luxury and lively fun. By day, we lounged by the beach with frozen cocktails in hand. By night, we were dancing under the stars at the silent disco or enjoying live reggae under palm trees.

What we especially appreciated was how couple-friendly everything felt—from ocean-view rooms to quiet moments by the water, punctuated by bursts of Caribbean rhythm and local flavor.

When it comes to all-inclusive dining, Dreams Montego Bay delivers variety and flexibility. With multiple à la carte restaurants, themed buffet nights, and snack bars near the beach and pool, there’s no shortage of options.

While we found vegetarian choices a bit limited at the main buffet, the chefs were amazing about creating custom dishes upon request. Our absolute favorite? The jerk tofu tacos—a bold, flavorful twist on a Jamaican classic.

Our Favorite Dining Spots:

  • El Patio – Authentic Mexican cuisine with zesty guacamole and strong margaritas
  • Portofino – Romantic Italian dinners (perfect for a date night)
  • Seaside Grill – Casual poolside lunches with burgers and Caribbean flavors

Travel tip: Let your servers or chefs know about any dietary restrictions early—they were always accommodating and even surprised us with off-menu creations.

Entertainment at the Resort: Silent Disco, Pool Parties & Live Shows

If you’re looking for a resort that’s more than just pretty views, Dreams Montego Bay keeps the energy going with daily entertainment. Whether you’re into cultural shows or dancing barefoot in the sand, there’s always something happening.

Our Favorite Resort Experiences:

  • Silent Disco – A fun twist on traditional dancing with LED headphones and different music channels for every taste
  • Cultural Nights – Jamaican drummers, fire dancers, and reggae performers bring the island spirit to life
  • Pool Parties – DJs, foam, cocktails, and a fun crowd made for easy, carefree afternoons
  • Live Music – From acoustic sets to full reggae bands, music was always part of the atmosphere

And when we wanted downtime, there were hammocks, beach loungers, and quiet corners to enjoy just the two of us.

Day Trips & Excursions: Culture, Nature & Sunset Vibes

We made the most of our location by venturing out on a few memorable excursions that added depth to our trip. These experiences helped us connect with Jamaican culture, nature, and history—and we’d recommend them to any couple visiting the island.

1. Bob Marley Mausoleum – Nine Mile

This cultural and spiritual experience took us deep into Bob Marley’s roots. Located in the hills of Nine Mile, this is where Jamaica’s most iconic musician was born, raised, and now rests in peace.

The guided tour included a visit to his childhood home, personal stories from local guides, and a powerful look into how his music and message still resonate worldwide. Whether you’re a die-hard Marley fan or simply curious, it’s a moving and memorable stop.

Bring cash for tipping and souvenirs—there are locally made Marley items worth browsing.

2. Dunn’s River Falls & Park

Located just outside of Ocho Rios, Dunn’s River Falls is a natural wonder that’s part waterfall, part adventure. We climbed the cascading limestone terraces (over 180 feet high), stopping to splash and laugh at every turn.

The climb was guided and totally doable with the right shoes. The lush jungle surroundings and nearby beach made it an ideal half-day trip.

Water shoes are required, and we recommend bringing a waterproof phone pouch for photos!

3. Sunset Reggae Catamaran Party – Discovery Bay

Our favorite excursion of all was the sunset boat party from Discovery Bay Beach. We boarded just before golden hour and set sail with reggae music, open-bar rum punch, and panoramic ocean views.

The boat made a stop at Margaritaville, where we danced on the dock and grabbed another drink before cruising back beneath the stars. It was the perfect blend of romance, fun, and unforgettable scenery.

Snorkeling in Crystal Waters

On one of our more relaxed afternoons, we joined a snorkeling trip just off the coast. The warm, clear Caribbean waters were perfect for beginners. We floated above coral reefs, spotted schools of colorful fish, and took it slow.

Pro tip: Bring your own snorkel mask and water shoes—it’ll make your time in the water more comfortable.

Everyday Island Joys

While the excursions and entertainment were amazing, some of our favorite memories came from Jamaica’s simple pleasures:

  • Fresh coconuts cracked open beachside
  • Daily sunsets over the water—each one better than the last
  • Soft reggae music playing everywhere
  • Frozen drinks at any hour—because it’s vacation
  • Island time—slow, relaxed, and exactly what we needed
